and thank you for your interest in the role of Vice Principal for Research at Robert Gordon University 

RGU is an innovative, inclusive and professional university focused on the impact of its demand-led teaching and research. Our agility ensured the University responded successfully to the COVID-19 pandemic, continuing to deliver teaching, assessment and research throughout unprecedented times, placing RGU in a strong position to address emerging challenges and seize opportunities as the world recovers.   

 

Our solution-orientated research has never been more imperative as the University joins the national effort to identify innovations and support the global response to the pandemic. The impact of COVID-19 will extend into next year and beyond and the University will actively support the regional, national and international recovery. The relevance of RGU’s research will continue to see the institution deliver innovative solutions for business and industry providing economic, societal, environmental and cultural impact.

 

RGU’s globally recognised dynamic research harnesses the expertise and knowledge of diverse disciplines from across the University’s schools. Prioritising regional, national and international strategic research partnerships is key to our research strategy which fosters excellence in interdisciplinary research and knowledge exchange. As Vice-Principal for Research you will continue to build on the significant investment the University has made to grow the impact of its research activity in focused areas where RGU has demonstrable credibility. Some of the ongoing projects, which target areas where our expertise can make the greatest impact, include work to address various aspects of island life in Orkney, growing smart data research in Mexico, and establishing the National Subsea Centre. 

 

As the Vice-Principal for Research you will be a member of the University Executive, contributing to diversity of thought, generating a spirit of curiosity, and demonstrating a commitment to RGU’s values of authenticity, approachability, collaboration, innovation, ambition and respectfulness. You will find we have a strong sense of community, where people work together and support one another to succeed. Your overall academic leadership, experience, and professional credibility will be important in helping you to shape the future direction of our research strategy and policy to ensure a high-quality delivery and a strong and vibrant research culture.
